The current global crisis of the Novel Coronavirus pandemic has killed more than 200 million people, infected more than 100 million and has created havoc in perhaps everyone’s lives, regardless of their geographic locations or socio-economic status. One of the best remedies to stop or minimize the transmission of the deadly virus is to immunize the global population against it. Next to the challenges of producing enough to vaccinate everyone and distributing the available doses equally, a major complication is to convince people to vaccinate themselves, which is certainly important to end the pandemic.

According to WHO, vaccine-hesitant people are those who delay the acceptance of or refuse vaccines despite the availability of vaccination services.
Indeed, this reluctance or refusal to vaccinate has various reasons, prohibiting the people from getting themselves out there and registering themselves for the process henceforth.

Misinformed masses
The spread of misinformation is the main root of vaccine hesitancy and in today’s world of social media, misinformation spreads like a wildfire. Whether it’s disfigured truths, profound lies or intrigued theories, misinformation about vaccines has played a vital role in declining the public’s trust and confidence towards the immunization drive.

Prevalent unawareness
Another issue falling in the same spectrum is that a vast majority of people residing in some parts of the country are not aware, or uninformed about the developments taking place in the vaccination drive.

Lack of faith in the system
Vaccine hesitancy is also associated with inter or intra-country issues and lack of interest in the system- be it in our government or the public health department.
Shortage of Resources
People from rural areas and people with a lack of resources face different kinds of complications. The expanse of their issue ranges from non-availability of transportation to the time and cost required to reach the vaccination site.
All of these factors are urging people to perpetuate the hazardous step of vaccine hesitancy.
One of the main ways to resist vaccine hesitancy is to spread awareness and improve an individual’s knowledge regarding the necessity and importance of vaccines which includes informing them about the facts, exposing myths and simply building confidence regarding the efficacy of the approved vaccines. Awareness campaigns can help people understand that the speed at which vaccines were developed has no relation to their efficacy.
Many celebrities and politicians have also chosen to take their Covid-19 vaccine dose in public or have used their platforms to share their vaccination experience to boost public trust. This can act as a major myth-buster to convince the public to take the necessary course of action towards recovery.
